Our Grassroots Advocacy Dialogue In Gulu

IRI and JCU are in Unyama Sub County Guru District implementing the Local Grassroot Advocacy dialogue. The dialogue is acting as a platform for local leaders to engage with duty bearers and local people on key issues affecting Unyama Sub County.
Participants have noted that Locals Council Courts are not effective on dispensing justice at local level especially on land related matters which has affected well being and livelihood of women and children.
There is a hot discussion on land rights and and generally the right to own property. Participants are sharing their personal experiences. Women are disclosing that their right own property & use the same especially when their husbands passes on have been immensely violated!
Participants have implored IRI and JCU to reach out to Local LC I,II,III Chairpersons and train them on their mandate and responsibilities under the Local Government Act.
Participants in Unyama Sub County, Guru District are also requesting IRI & JCU to extensively train members of the Local Council Courts on their role and jurisdiction as provided for under the Local Council Court Act, 2006
